DIY Chicken Automatic Waterer Using a Float Valve

No more running out of water! No constant water waste! No more supplying flies with wet ground to live in! Put a lid on it and no more messy, algae bucket to clean every other day! In fact, you may only have to clean it once a season! Yeah!

Items needed:

-Bucket with a lid. (Ask your local donut shop if they have buckets for sale or to give away.) Tip: Don't use an old bucket that has been lying around the farm in the sun for five years. It will be brittle and break right away.

-Braided Intake Hose

-Chicken Watering Nipples

-Float Valve

-Drill You need a drill to make the holes in the bucket to attach the nipples and the float valve. Be very careful not to make the hole too big. If there is leeway, they will leak.

-Access to a garden hose Of course, this waterer is meant to be connected to an outdoor garden hose.

Check out the above Amazon links or go to your local hardware store. The plumbing section (toilets) will have all the supplies, except the watering nipples.

Of course, if you prefer, a chicken watering kit is an option too!

LAUNDRY SOAP

A simple mixture of washing soda, Borax and Zote. I bought a 5-gallon bucket of washing soda a year ago and it is still full. There are seven of us in the house making dirty laundry. These materials are so cheap it is very cost-effective. Only two tablespoons are needed per large load. I use the dry method and just fill the first part of the washer with hot water and the soap. This melts the soap flakes. Then I fill the rest of the washer with cold water. Essential oils for fragrance are optional.

Secondary Fermented Kombucha

Summer is coming and so are hot workdays! Get ready now to serve cold kombucha to your crew/family by finding out what flavors they like now. Add a teaspoon of sugar or fruit to the first fermentation and let it ferment on the counter for a few days until it reaches the desired fruit flavor and fizz and then refrigerate. Get ready to be refreshed!
